VERSO CLOSURE COMMUNITY RESPONSE

On April 30, 2019, Verso Corporation announced the closure of its Luke, Maryland paper mill. Immediately thereafter, leaders from the State of Maryland’s Department of Commerce and Department of Labor, the State of West Virginia, Allegany, Garrett, and Mineral Counties have been working together to provide a coordinated response to assist everyone impacted by the Verso decision. According to the company’s media release, the closure is expected to be complete by June 30, 2019 and will directly impact approximately 675 employees. There are also a significant number of families and businesses that depend on / and provide services and materials to the Luke Mill site.

As resources continue to be deployed, federal, state and local officials are working closely to do everything possible to help the workers in the tri-state region during this difficult time. Resource Fair – WVU Potomac State College

A Resource Fair for those impacted by the Verso closure will be held on Thursday, May 9 from 11AM-4:30PM at the Academic Success Center (Ground Floor of Mary F. Shipper Library) WVU Potomac State College Campus.  Learn more about the resources available.  No registration is necessary/free parking available.
